• Meet Daniel Schlicher -
President & Owner of DS Design Consultants

I realize there is much to learn in this changing field.  I am happy to see others around me learn and progress in knowledge of HVAC systems.  I am reliable, honest, trustworthy and hard-working.  I’ve learned through experience how important it is to pace oneself and be well-organized in high-stress and high-volume times.  I value the support of a team and network

• Skills and Abilities

The use of a digital camera for documentation on jobsites and sales calls, and displaying such on the “Palm” for descriptions to potential customers and coworkers, keeps things clear and understandable.  We use state-of-art-technology and software, and that's important for efficiency and comfort.  Yet, applying practical understanding of the mechanical workings of HVAC systems keeps designs simple, maintainable and functional.  Being able to troubleshoot problems and resolve issues adds to our depth. We can work with customers to resolve issues diplomatically and communicate well with people in “touchy” situations.  (Se habla Espanol, si se necessita.)

• History of DS Design Consultants

Daniel began working at Haselow Plumbing and Heating, INC (which his father owns).  He was trained as an installer for HVAC systems and worked as such for several years.  Working as a foreman for the install department, then as an HVAC service technician gave good practical training.  Then, moving into the office to work as the HVAC install dept. manager, allowed for further experience.  What followed was a focus on radiant floor heating for the company.  His team worked hard to gain knowledge of the principles of radiant floor heating and other hydronic applications. Daniel soon saw that it would be advantageous to have a “standardization” of the installations.  He designed a “footprint” system that could be either expanded or reduced in scope dependant upon application.  Such systems expanded to include the use of indirect-fired water heaters and air handlers with hot water coils.  Including Heat Recovery Ventilator systems that exhaust the bathrooms to compensate for the makeup air requirements of large residential applications was incorporated.  Control strategies for multiple zones with floor sensing and some snowmelt as well as staging multiple boilers were also designed and implemented by Daniel.  Also, he saw training and communication were vital to “raising the bar” on the level of quality.  Soon, an in-house training program was developed and he taught some classes on a monthly basis.  A continuing education requirement for installers was instituted.  The quality improved and our systems worked well.  We were able to secure new customers who in turn gave us referrals.

DS Design Consultants, LLC has been a result of the aforementioned "road traveled" focusing on the design of modern hydronic radiant heating systems.
